Interpreting

Interpreting is the verbal translation of one language into another. Sight translation is a hybrid of interpreting and translation: the interpreter verbally renders a written document into another language.

Leonard Morin has worked as an interpreter since 2006. He began his career working as a volunteer at Latin American solidarity events in New York City. Event organizers, who knew he was a translator, assumed he was able to interpret (or “translate”). Leonard obliged them, but found he must embark on an endeavor of many years to become a full-fledged interpreter. He became a court interpreter in 2012 and has been a staff Spanish interpreter at Manhattan Criminal Court since 2015. In 2022 he obtained federally certification.
